Agricultural University Plans to Increase Monthly Scholarship to 70,000 Drams
Before 2019, students were accepted into the Agricultural University without entrance exams. Starting from 2020, entrance exams were introduced, which has contributed to a decrease in the number of applicants. This was stated by Zhanna Andreasian during discussions on the performance report of the 2022 budget in parliament, addressing the decline in applicants at the Agricultural University.
“We also have this statistic that 80 percent of those who apply to the Agricultural University are not accepted. Not only are there fewer applicants, but the majority of those who apply are unable to enroll, and subsequently, most of them end up in distance learning programs,” Andreasian said.
According to the minister, to encourage enrollment at the Agricultural University, a scholarship program is planned to be implemented. “In the near future, we hope that with a government decision, the program will be confirmed for certain sectors, including the agricultural field and teacher training programs in scientific disciplines, where we have alarming statistics. These numbers should serve as a wake-up call for all of us, especially for us, and are an area we are working on. We are introducing a scholarship program with a monthly scholarship of 70,000 drams, and we hope this will serve as an incentive,” the minister noted, adding that due to late notification about the scholarship program, the results will be evident next year.
