NATO to Dispatch Additional Forces to Kosovo

The North Atlantic Alliance has decided to send an additional multinational battalion to Kosovo to support NATO forces (KFOR) deployed there. This was stated in a statement from NATO Allied Joint Force Command in Naples.

“Due to recent unrest and the injury of 30 fighters, NATO's KFOR has been ordered to deploy operational support forces in the Western Balkans,” the statement said.

Additionally, KFOR Command emphasized that the multinational battalion has been tasked with increasing the readiness of its units to reinforce operational troops if necessary.

Just a day prior, protests erupted in Northern Kosovo and Metohija related to elections held in four municipalities at the end of April. As a result, the military contingent of the Western military bloc clashed with Serbs in the municipality of Zvecan. There have been dozens of casualties as a result of the clashes in Kosovo.
