More than 40 NATO Soldiers Injured in Kosovo Clashes
Italy's Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani has stated on his Twitter page that 11 Italian soldiers, part of the International Security Forces operating under NATO's (KFOR) umbrella, were injured during clashes in partially recognized Kosovo. According to him, three of their conditions are "quite serious." However, the minister noted that "nothing threatens the lives of those soldiers." According to ANSA agency, a total of 41 KFOR personnel were injured.
Clashes occurred on May 29 in the municipality of Zvecan in Kosovo between Serbian protesters and security forces. KFOR representatives used batons, stun grenades, and tear gas against the protesters, while special units of the Kosovo police used firearms. In response, the protesters began throwing stones and heavy objects at the security forces. As a result, at least 50 people were injured.
