Eco-Activists Demand Money from Aliyev

In recent days, the Azerbaijani social media sphere has been actively discussing a protest action by representatives of several non-governmental organizations (NGOs) funded by the state, in front of the office of Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev. This is reported by 'Infoteka24'.

According to local media, the protesters are voicing their opposition to cuts in their funding. Among the demonstrators were so-called 'eco-activists' who, under the instruction of the Azerbaijani authorities, had illegally closed the Lachin corridor for several months.

Particularly notable were images showing a woman who had previously been known for suffocating a pigeon in the Lachin corridor back in December, as well as Rade Abas, the head of the 'Social Support for Women Veterans of War' NGO, whose organization also actively participated in the blockade of the corridor.

It is significant that recently, the Azerbaijani state agency published the results of a competition for small grants to be awarded to Azerbaijani NGOs for 2023. Following the announcement of these results, members of the organizations began organizing protests against the reductions or cancellations of their grants. After this protest, Azerbaijan's state propaganda machine began to undermine them.
