Criminal Proceedings Initiated Regarding Paper Burning at the Genocide Museum

Criminal proceedings have been initiated regarding the burning of papers in a metal container in the vicinity of the Genocide Museum, following a report received by the Police. This action was taken on May 23, 2023, by the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia at the Malatia-Sebastia administrative district's investigative department in Yerevan under part 2 of Article 301 of the RA Criminal Code. This information was reported by the spokesperson for the Chairman of the Investigative Committee, Gor Abrahamyan, on his Facebook page.

During the preliminary investigation, several individuals have been interrogated, including the head of the 'Institute of the Armenian Genocide Museum' as well as officials and staff responsible for the museum's fund preservation.

According to the current data available in the proceedings, the papers seen in the video were either drafts or photographs of images from museum items used for various temporary, traveling exhibitions. Based on information obtained in the proceedings, no museum items registered in the main fund of the museum have been burned or destroyed.

The investigation is ongoing, and necessary measures are being taken to verify the received data within the scope of the proceedings and to provide a final legal assessment of the actions of the individuals involved.

It should be noted that a video circulating online claims that materials related to the Armenian Genocide were being burned.
