Armenia Appeals to ECHR Over Illegal Abduction of Two Armenian Soldiers by Azerbaijan

The Office of the Representative of Armenia on International Legal Affairs filed an appeal to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) regarding the illegal abduction of two Armenian soldiers by Azerbaijan on May 28. The information was provided to Auroranews by the press secretary of the Office, Hasmik Samvelyan.

“We have appealed to the ECHR requesting interim measures to ensure the right to life of the Armenian soldiers. There is no issue of confirmation since the Azerbaijani side has already acknowledged that the Armenian soldiers are there. Azerbaijan must present the court with the conditions of their detention, medical and other documents. Once the court submits this request to Azerbaijan, they will set a deadline for the response,” Samvelyan stated.

Earlier, the Armenian Ministry of Defense reported that on May 26, starting from 7:00 PM, contact with two soldiers of the Armenian Armed Forces providing food supplies to combat positions was lost. Subsequently, as a result of search operations, a rear supply vehicle operated by the two missing soldiers was found on an interposition road, loaded with food and water intended for combat posts.

Meanwhile, the Azerbaijani side has presented the illegal abduction of the Armenian soldiers as an alleged attempt at diversionary incursion.
