The most powerful typhoon in the last 20 years has struck Guam, USA. Local residents have been instructed to evacuate to safer areas or seek shelter in concrete buildings. The island is home to more than 172,000 Americans, including military personnel.

The typhoon's maximum wind speed is 140 miles per hour.
