Thank You to the Peruvian Parliament for Declaring Me a Persona Non Grata: Mexican President

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has expressed gratitude to the Peruvian parliamentary committee that voted in favor of declaring him a persona non grata. This information was reported by TASS.

“I am very grateful for being declared a persona non grata because I would feel uncomfortable if those legislators and the woman in power awarded me a prize or applauded me. I would be embarrassed,” he stated at a press conference held on May 23.

The Mexican president has indicated that he does not place much importance on this decision, as it reflects the stance of a minority in Peru. “They are corrupt politicians, abusers of their official positions, and bought journalists and intellectuals, not the Peruvian people,” he believes.

It should be noted that on May 22, the Foreign Relations Committee of the Peruvian Congress voted in favor of declaring Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador a persona non grata due to his critical remarks regarding the country's authorities. The initiative will now be discussed in a plenary session of Parliament.
