No Members of Parliament Participated in the Vote for Supreme Court Judge
No member of the National Assembly participated in the election of a judge for the Civil Chamber of the Supreme Court, and the Supreme Judicial Council must propose the next trio of candidates within 10 days.
According to a report by Armenpress, the Supreme Judicial Council had proposed the candidacies of Vahagn Torosyan, Lilith Khachatryan, and Ani Mkrtchyan for the vacant position of judge in the Civil Chamber of the Supreme Court.
After the closed-secret voting, the chairman of the counting committee, Narek Babayan, announced that no member of the National Assembly participated in the voting process.
The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Hakob Arshakyan, stated that according to procedural regulations, if none of the candidates is elected, a second round of voting is conducted in which the two candidates with the most votes from the first round can participate.
“However, since we do not have any candidate who received a vote, there cannot be a second round according to the regulations. Therefore, the matter now lies with the Supreme Judicial Council, and they must propose the next trio of candidates within 10 days,” Arshakyan announced.
