I Will Refrain from Commenting on Judicial Decisions: Human Rights Defender on Gayane Hakobyan's Arrest
As a human rights defender, I am legally prohibited from intervening in the context of judicial acts and the activities of courts, and this decision has been made by the court. This was stated by the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Anahit Manasyan, during a program on Public TV, addressing the arrest of Gayane Hakobyan, the mother of a soldier who died in the 44-day war.
Gayane Hakobyan has been arrested in connection with the alleged abduction case involving Ashot Pashinyan.
“However, I have specifically emphasized and mentioned in the text of my statement that it is essential to pay special attention to the circumstance that detention as a preventive measure can only be applied in cases where alternative preventive measures do not allow ensuring the proper conduct of the person within the framework of the proceedings. Naturally, I will refrain from presenting any view or opinion regarding the judicial act and its justification,” said the Human Rights Defender.
Manasyan also noted that it is important for the issue to receive priority attention in the context of the appeal of the judicial act.
