Armenia Does Not Participate in WHO Vote on Anti-Russian Resolution

Among the 194 member countries of the World Health Organization (WHO), only 80 supported the adoption of an anti-Russian resolution regarding Ukraine during the ongoing World Health Assembly in Geneva.

The majority of WHO member delegations either voted against this document (9), abstained (52), were absent from the voting hall (36), or were not permitted to participate in the vote according to procedures (17).

The draft resolution, co-authored primarily by countries identified as unfriendly towards Russia, also includes Moldova and Georgia, condemns Moscow's special military operation in Ukraine. This draft places responsibility on Moscow for the deterioration of the healthcare situation in Ukraine.

The text of the document is very similar in content and tone to similar resolutions adopted primarily at the initiative of unfriendly states towards the Russian Federation in previous World Health Assemblies.

On Wednesday, in addition to Russia, 8 countries voted against the anti-Russian resolution, including Algeria, Belarus, China, North Korea, Cuba, Laos, Nicaragua, and Syria. Those who abstained included Brazil, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and South Africa. During the voting, 36 delegations were absent from the hall. Notably, representatives from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Serbia, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan were among those not present. Furthermore, representatives from 17 countries, including Venezuela, were not allowed to vote due to issues related to adherence to WHO rules and procedures.
