Psychological Abuse and Death Threats Against Professor Wearing Mkhitaryan Jersey in Azerbaijan
In Azerbaijan, psychological pressure is being exerted on a professor who donned a jersey named after Henrikh Mkhitaryan, along with death threats.
Agalar Karibov, a philosophy professor at several universities in Baku, took to his Facebook page to request assistance from civil society.
"I do not particularly hope that the chief editor of az website and the employees responsible for this publication will be held criminally liable for the violation of my civil rights, mass psychological abuse, bullying, and death threats. Nevertheless, I urge civil society to actively participate in this issue and ask for their support," he wrote.
On his Facebook page, he denied reports circulating in Azerbaijani media that he does not consider Armenians an enemy, and noted that besides wearing a jersey of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, he also owns the jersey of another Armenian footballer.
Notably, in a country like Azerbaijan, it is conceivable that the man felt compelled to deny such claims to avoid various threats and attacks.
He explained that he wore the Arsenal football club jersey, specifically named after Henrikh Mkhitaryan, during a football match to tease his journalist friend and the opposing team. After the game, he stated that the journalist asked him “provocative” questions and misunderstood his sarcastic response.
At the same time, he wrote, "Of course, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who is not a working-class player, is considered an enemy for us Marxists, but so is Araz Abdulayev, who publicly humiliates children and does not receive appropriate punishment for killing people with his car, or publicly humiliating children.”
It is worth remembering that we previously reported that the professor from Baku universities wore the Mkhitaryan jersey and went to the stadium.
