Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin Responds to the Detention of Gayane Hakobyan
The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin has addressed the detention of Gayane Hakobyan, the mother of a fallen soldier.
“The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin expresses its deep concern regarding the application of detention against Gayane Hakobyan, a grieving parent, who is accused of the alleged kidnapping of the Prime Minister's son. Such proceedings, which provoke unrest and turmoil in society, deal a heavy blow to the morale and devotion of our children who are engaged in the defense of the homeland, especially against the backdrop of current threats to national security. They may lead to new divisions in the national life,” the statement continued.
“We urge the relevant authorities to conduct the investigation of the criminal case with utmost impartiality, taking into account, particularly, the situation of the parent of the fallen soldier, as well as the existing concerns and sensitivities in the country, without isolating Ms. Gayane Hakobyan.”
“We pray for the peace of our homeland, for the security of our state. We also pray for the repose of the souls of all our fallen children and extend our support to the parents and families of the deceased soldiers,” the statement from the Mother See concluded.
It is worth noting that Gayane Hakobyan, accused of the kidnapping of the Prime Minister's son, Ashot Pashinyan, has been ordered by the court to be detained for one month, which was followed by a march of her supporters.
