EU to Adopt New Sanctions Package Against Iran: Borrell

European Union foreign ministers will make a decision today regarding a new sanctions package against Iran. This was reported by Armenpress, citing the Italian news agency Nova, and was announced by the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, upon arriving at the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels.

“The Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels will approve a new sanctions package against Iran concerning human rights violations. Recently, three more individuals have been executed there. We will adopt this new sanctions package,” Borrell stated.

The new sanctions package against Iran was also mentioned by Germany's Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock upon arriving for a meeting with her EU counterparts. “Today, we have the eighth sanctions package on the agenda, regarding which we will make a decision, taking into account the human rights violations occurring there. New individuals will initially be included on the sanctions list, primarily from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, who are responsible for these violations,” Baerbock was quoted by TASS.

Earlier, the Iranian IRNA agency reported that three convicts were executed on May 19 in Isfahan, who had carried out a terrorist attack in November 2022 and killed three members of security forces.
