The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of Armenia, Narek Mkrtchyan, has announced that programs aimed at improving the demographic situation have a positive impact on birth rates, and there has been a significant increase in the number of third and subsequent children born in families.
“If we compare the figures of 2018 and 2021, we see that over four years, the number of third and subsequent children born has increased by approximately 30 percent of the total number of births. In 2018, there were 8,271 children born as third or higher order, while in 2021 the number increased to 11,438,” he stated.
Additionally, according to him, significant growth in births was recorded in the first quarter of 2023. “Compared to the first quarter of the previous year, the number of births has increased by 658. There is also a significant decrease in the death rate, which is 20 percent lower compared to the previous quarter. We will have a more comprehensive overview in December,” the minister added.
