Significant Drug Epidemic in Armenia: Arthur Khachikyan
We all know that there is a significant drug epidemic in Armenia, spreading through schools, universities, and even reports of its presence in the military among 16-17 year olds. This was stated by Arthur Khachikyan, a PhD in Political Science from Stanford University, during a conversation with journalists in front of the National Security Service today.
"This is a major disaster. I know measures are being taken, and there is some fight against it by law enforcement agencies, but it needs to be implemented more intensively. This is a large catastrophe, essentially an action that could lead to the demise of our nation. Our youth are being destroyed; our society is literally being numbed," he said.
When asked whether the authorities are connected to the large-scale importation of drugs into Armenia, Khachikyan responded, "I cannot say such a thing; I have no such facts, but it would be better if there were sharper actions against this phenomenon. We all know it is spreading everywhere." He also noted that neighboring Georgia is experiencing a horrific drug epidemic. "Official figures show a 95 percent increase in drug usage in Armenia. There are between 1,500 to 3,000 Telegram channels selling drugs," Khachikyan emphasized.
