New Military-Technical and Economic Sanctions Against Russia
The United States is set to announce new sanctions targeting participants in military-technical cooperation between Russia and Iran. The White House has issued a corresponding statement.
John Kirby, spokesperson for the U.S. National Security Council, noted that the sanctions will focus on the expansion of trade in military goods between Iran and Russia. He reiterated accusations against Iran for supplying drones to Russia.
It is also mentioned that new sanctions have been announced by the European Union. The restrictions on the transit of dual-use goods through Russia to third countries will be tightened, as well as the impact on the export of such goods.
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, stated that a sharp increase in trade with certain countries within the EU has been observed in recent months.
Moreover, discrepancies have been identified between transit deliveries through Russia from the EU and the arrival of goods to third countries, prompting the EU to advocate for further restrictions on transit.
The Commission's president specified that this concerns countries that purchase goods directly from the EU, then transfer products that are under sanctions to Moscow.
“We can ban supplies to those countries in the presence of clear evidence that this involves circumventing sanctions and supplying to Russia,” said von der Leyen.
