Zelensky Arrives in Italy, Set to Meet with Pope Francis
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has arrived in Rome, where he is scheduled to meet with the President and Prime Minister of Italy. This was reported by the Rainews24 news channel.
Upon arrival at the "Ciampino" airport, Zelensky was greeted by Italy's Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani. Zelensky will first meet with President Sergio Mattarella, followed by discussions with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. In the afternoon, he will be received by Pope Francis.
According to reports from La Repubblica, Zelensky may stay overnight in Rome before flying to Berlin the next morning.
It is noteworthy that the Italian police have heightened security measures in connection with the arrival of the Ukrainian president, establishing a no-fly zone in the city center. Specific areas have been placed under the surveillance of canine units, snipers, and bomb squads, while oversight is maintained over the sewage system, parks, and the Tiber River. In total, around 1,000 law enforcement agents are involved in the security operation.
