Norik Norikyan to Run for Yerevan Mayor
The 'Justice Armenia' party has announced on its Facebook page that the party leader Norik Norikyan will be nominated as a candidate for the Mayor of Yerevan.
"It is extremely concerning that under the guise of democracy and freedom, rudeness and lawlessness have become the norm, the image of men and women has been distorted, and the perception of family, elders and youth, education, and the protection of the state and homeland is changing within our society," the party's statement reads.
The governing council of the 'Justice Armenia' party believes that in the current political climate, Yerevan needs an intelligent, intellectual mayor, who is not discredited or involved in any corrupt practices, and who truly loves Yerevan.
The party excludes the possibility of the ruling force's candidate, Tigran Avinyan, or any other representative of the ruling power being elected as the mayor.
'Justice Armenia' has decided to reach an acceptable nominee for the Mayor of Yerevan through Norik Norikyan before the electoral list is officially established, and if that is impossible, to nominate the party president Norik Norikyan for the mayoral election.
It is reminded that the elections for the Yerevan City Council are scheduled for the fall of 2023. The 'Civil Contract' party announced on March 31 that it would nominate Tigran Avinyan for the city council elections. On September 23, he was appointed Deputy Mayor of Yerevan.
Other candidates include businessman Tigran Arzakanzyan's wife, Russian national Natalia Rotenberg, singer Ruben Hakobyan, head of the 'Light' faction David Khajakyan, and the former head of Yerevan's Center administrative district, Viktor Mnatsakanyan.
The 'National Progress' party will also contest the mayoral post, led by board member Hayk Grigoryan.
Former MP, former head of the NSS, and president of the 'Homeland' party Arthur Vanetsyan has not ruled out the possibility of nominating his candidacy in the Yerevan mayoral elections.
The 'Living Land' party has also submitted a candidacy for the mayoral election, with Mane Tandilyan as their nominee.
