Poor Deputy Getting Richer Day by Day: 'Zhoghovourd'
According to the 'Zhoghovourd' newspaper, the Deputy of the National Assembly from the ruling Civil Contract faction, Hovik Aghazaryan, who previously stated in interviews that he was renting, has recently acquired a new apartment in the Ani district. In a conversation with us, the deputy did not deny this information, stating that he purchased the apartment with a mortgage two years ago.
“I was a deputy in the 90s, I had been in line for an apartment for 5 years before becoming a deputy, then I became a deputy and was a member of the opposition faction, the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF), and I didn't receive an apartment after that. In 2020, we bought an apartment in a newly constructed building with a mortgage. Now my sons, my wife, and my grandchild live in that apartment, and our abilities allow us to pay off the mortgage,” Aghazaryan told us.
Moreover, the sons of the ruling party deputy hold positions in the public sector. The deputy's younger son, Hovsep Aghazaryan, is the deputy mayor of Nor Nork, while his other son works at the State Revenue Committee (SRC). Regarding his son's appointment as deputy mayor, Aghazaryan believes that his son holds a position that is below his capabilities: “This is the result of him working alongside our team for a long time. The officials who are authorized to appoint positions have noticed his abilities. As for my son who works at the SRC, he worked there for more than a year, and when there was an exam, he did not meet the threshold. He has long since left the SRC and does not work there anymore,” Hovik Aghazaryan stated.
