Erdogan Rebukes Kilicdaroglu: 'How Can You Not Be Ashamed?'

The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has issued a stern rebuke to his chief rival in the Turkish elections, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, after the latter claimed that Russia had interfered in the country’s elections.

“Now Mr. Kemal has begun to mock Russia. He says that Russia is controlling Turkey’s elections. How can you not be ashamed? What would you say if we said that America, England, and Germany are controlling the elections?” Erdogan said during a speech in Istanbul on Friday.

Earlier, Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov responded to Kilicdaroglu's allegations, stating that Moscow does not interfere in the internal politics and electoral processes of other countries.

Presidential and parliamentary elections in Turkey are set for May 14. A second round of presidential voting, if no candidate secures at least 50 percent of the votes, is scheduled for May 28.
