Death Toll from Floods in Congo Reaches Nearly 440

The death toll from floods in the South Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has reached 438. According to local media reports, heavy rains that began two days ago in the villages of Bushushu and Nyamukubi have caused the Chibira River to overflow.

Government spokesperson Patrick Muyaya reported that the bodies of 26 missing individuals have been found. He noted that the number of missing persons exceeds 4,000, with many in the region considered to be unaccounted for. Search and rescue operations are ongoing.

Located in a tropical climate zone, the Democratic Republic of Congo often faces natural disasters during the rainy season.
