Azerbaijanis Aim to Take Control of Sotk Mine: Military Expert
By attacking Sotk, Azerbaijanis have pursued the goal of completely taking over the mine. This was stated by military expert Haik Nahapetyan in an interview with NEWS.am.
“Until now, they were using firearms to obstruct workers from reaching their workplace, but now they are using mortars. I assume the adversary has concentrated quite a significant force to take our frontline and the Sotk mine completely, because the mine has been sold to a British company. However, these large concentrations have not yet entered into action, as the Armenian side had prior knowledge of the enemy's plans, and the Azerbaijanis are left to instill panic with mortars. I believe there will be further attacks on the mine in the near future, and other directions cannot be ruled out either,” Nahapetyan stated.
For Nahapetyan, a question remains about where the European Union observers are during such tense situations and what they are doing. “I think they have been in those positions one or two days prior, as was the case in Tegh. Especially considering that they send their reports primarily to Azerbaijan and Brussels, not to our Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” Nahapetyan noted.
