Ukraine's Counteroffensive May Not Be Swift and Decisive Like in Hollywood Films: UK Foreign Secretary
The upcoming counteroffensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces may not be "simple, swift, and decisive, like in Hollywood films.” This was stated by the UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, as reported by The Guardian.
Speaking at the Atlantic Council's Strategic Studies Center in Washington, Cleverly noted that expectations surrounding Ukraine's forthcoming offensive seem excessively high, and in reality, everything may not be as "Hollywood" and successful as anticipated.
"They (the Ukrainian Armed Forces) have proven themselves to be very, very effective defenders of their country, but we must recognize that a simple, swift, and decisive breakthrough may not happen," he said.
"I hope and expect that they will succeed because when I saw the Ukrainians, they exceeded all expectations. But we must be realistic. This is the real world, not a Hollywood film," he added.
The UK Foreign Secretary urged the West to continue its military support for Ukraine, regardless of how the offensive unfolds, as "the stakes are unimaginably high."
