Death Toll from Fires in Russia's Kurgan Region Rises to 21

The death toll from fires in Russia's Kurgan region has reached 21, with another 13 people suffering injuries of varying degrees. More than 300 residential buildings and approximately 4,000 structures have been destroyed due to the wildfires in the area.

The total area affected by the fires exceeds 18,000 hectares. Major wildfires began in the Kurgan region on May 7, prompting evacuations of residents from several localities.

According to local authorities, seven criminal cases have been initiated regarding the fires. Earlier reports indicated that efforts to combat the fires in the Kurgan region are ongoing. Governor Vadim Shumkov has declared a state of emergency in the region.
