Berlin Court Prohibits Displaying Russian Flag on May 9

The Berlin Supreme Administrative Court has revoked the permission to display Russian flags and symbols during events scheduled for May 8 and 9. This was reported by Tagesschau.

The court decided that displaying and carrying the USSR flag, as well as St. George’s ribbons and flags, is banned. This decision is not subject to appeal.

On May 5, the Berlin police imposed a temporary ban on the use of Russian and Ukrainian flags in the Soviet memorials located in Treptower Park, Tiergarten, and Schönholzer Heide. At the same time, it has been reported that the restrictions will not apply to World War II veterans and diplomats.

On May 7, the Berlin Administrative Court overturned the police ban. It was clarified that the permit pertains to an event scheduled for May 9 on June 17 Street. The police have appealed this decision.
