Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry on the Trial of Azerbaijanis Sentenced in Armenia
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has issued a statement regarding the cases of servicemen who crossed the state border of Armenia. According to the statement, Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry "strongly condemns" the trial of Azerbaijani servicemen Agshin Babirov and Huseyn Akhundov, as well as the verdict under which Babirov was sentenced to imprisonment.
It is noted that "Armenia once again demonstrates its disregard for its responsibilities under international humanitarian law and is not interested in establishing peace in the region." Baku has also called on the international community to "exert serious pressure on Armenia to release Azerbaijani soldiers as soon as possible." Earlier, we reported that a verdict had been issued in the case of one of the two Azerbaijanis who crossed the Armenian border, Agshin Babirov. On May 4, the court sentenced Babirov to a final punishment of 11 years, 6 months, and 15 days in prison.
Another Azerbaijani serviceman, Huseyn Akhundov, has not yet had a decision made regarding his case, and the investigation into his case is still ongoing.
