Gunfire Directed at Turkish Ambassador's Vehicle in Sudan

Gunfire has targeted the vehicle of the Turkish ambassador in Sudan. The information was reported by the state-owned "Trt Haber" television channel, citing diplomatic sources.

"Diplomatic sources: Gunfire has been directed at the car of Turkish Ambassador Ismail Cobanoglu. Preliminary reports indicate that there are no casualties or injuries," the broadcaster noted.

Fighting has been ongoing in Sudan since April 15 between the Rapid Support Forces (led by Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo) and the regular army. Competing forces in Sudan have exchanged contradictory statements regarding successes in military operations and control over targets, launching a massive information war in the media and social networks.

According to the Sudanese Ministry of Health, the number of casualties due to the clashes in the country has reached 600.

On Tuesday in Geneva, Nima Said Abid, a representative of the WHO in Sudan, announced at the UN's weekly briefing that 459 people have died and 4,072 have been injured during the armed conflict.

Earlier, the UN Secretary-General called on the parties to immediately cease hostilities while addressing a Security Council meeting. The UN's special representative for Sudan, Volker Perthes, stated that neither side has yet expressed a willingness to enter into negotiations.

Last week, senior sources from the Sudanese Foreign Ministry informed RIA Novosti that the conflict parties have appointed representatives for negotiations, which will likely take place in the capital of South Sudan, Juba.
