Three Arrested in Chambarak on Suspicion of Hooliganism and Violence Against Police Officers
On May 5, 2023, at 04:00 AM, a report was received by the patrol service of the Police of Armenia regarding an incident that occurred in Chambarak. It was noted that on May 4, 2023, around 10:30 PM, officers had observed a "Toyota RAV-4" parked on a pedestrian crossing on September 21 Street in Chambarak and issued a warning to remove it.
Afterward, to verify the situation, patrol officers stopped the mentioned vehicle on G. Nzhdeh Street and discovered that the driver did not possess a driver's license. During the conversation, around 20-25 individuals led by the driver and a passenger began to pull at the patrol officers, hurling sexual insults at them, and one individual punched a patrol officer in the face, causing physical pain before fleeing the scene.
A criminal case was initiated at the Sevan Investigative Division of the Gegharkunik Regional Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia under Article 297, Part 2, Clause 1 and Article 452, Part 3 of the Criminal Code. On May 5, three individuals were arrested on suspicion of committing a crime related to the incident: a 36-year-old driver of the vehicle, a 40-year-old passenger, and a 29-year-old resident of Chambarak.
The investigation is ongoing. A forensic examination has been ordered. All necessary investigative measures are being taken to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident, identify all participants, and legally evaluate everyone’s actions.
Notification: A suspect in the alleged crime is considered innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the established procedure of the Criminal Procedure Code of Armenia by a legally binding court decision.
