Erdogan and His Main Rival Accuse Each Other: 'His Mother is Armenian... His Grandmother is Armenian Too'

The leader of the opposition, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, is reportedly gaining momentum in Turkey's pre-election race, according to recent polls. Currently, 48.6% are ready to vote for him, based on data from a survey conducted by the Optimar research center among 3,005 participants from April 25 to 28.

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on the other hand, has garnered 51.4% of the votes. Another Turkish monitoring study shows Kilicdaroglu in the lead with 47.3%, followed by Erdogan with 41.9%.

The competition between the two has intensified to such an extent that the sitting president reminded the leader of the Republican People's Party that his mother is Armenian. This was reported by rusarminfo.

Kilicdaroglu, without denying his Armenian heritage, has stated that Erdogan also has Armenian lineage, claiming that his grandmother is Armenian as well.

Turkologist Viktor Nadein-Raevsky commented on the mutual revelations between Turkish politicians in one of the interviews, analyzing their implications. The expert recalled that discussions about Erdogan's Armenian roots have been ongoing for a long time and noted that Erdogan is “very offended” by these mentions.
