Why a Ruling Party MP Is Not Punished for Writing Sexual Insults
“The ruling party MP is not punished for presenting sexual insults, while ordinary citizens are punished for the same act,” writes the newspaper “Zhoghovurd.”
On April 15, a female user named Anahit Virabyan announced that the MP from the Civil Contract Party, Hovikaghazaryan, had written her a sexual insult on the Facebook social network. Virabyan also published the obscene message on her social media page.
“Although the MP claimed that his page was apparently hacked, the facts were published, and to this day, Aghazaryan has not faced any accountability for the insult,” the report states.
Meanwhile, “Zhoghovurd” presents facts of ordinary citizens who have been severely punished for insulting comments in a similar manner. For example, Galust Zamanov was charged for making comments in the “comments” section of a post, which contained public insults towards Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Similarly, Artak Sargsyan was charged for writing a comment under a post on February 25, 2022, which also contained severe insults directed at Pashinyan's public activities.
This means that insulting Nikol Pashinyan is an inevitably punishable act, while when his party ally, MP Hovik Aghazaryan, commits an insult, he remains unpunished. Judicial Chief Prosecutor Anna Vardapetyan spoke at length about justice from the parliamentary podium yesterday.
