Simonyan Meets with President of Serbian Parliament: Details
Within the framework of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Parliamentary Assembly, the President of the National Assembly of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, met with the President of the Serbian Parliament, Vladimir Orlic, in Ankara on May 4.
According to the press service of the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan expressed condolences to his counterpart regarding the tragic incident in Belgrade that claimed multiple young lives yesterday.
The parties acknowledged the warm friendly relations between Armenia and Serbia, emphasizing the continuous and effective development of bilateral cooperation in all areas.
Simonyan highlighted the importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation, noting the active dialogue between legislative bodies and the role of friendship groups.
Both partners expressed satisfaction with the cooperation within international organizations.
“I believe that effective cooperation of our delegations in such forums will help us find solutions to complex issues that concern us all,” stated Alen Simonyan.
His Serbian counterpart expressed gratitude for the positive responses from Armenia and for maintaining substantial partnership relations, which have manifested in both bilateral and multilateral formats.
The parties discussed details concerning security issues in their region. The Armenian NA President presented the ongoing bellicose rhetoric and maximalist position of the Azerbaijani authorities, as well as the continuous aggressive actions against Armenia's sovereignty and the Armenians living in Nagorno-Karabakh. Alen Simonyan outlined the timeline of the post-war situation, emphasizing the important role of the EU civilian monitoring mission in the context of the increasingly unstable situation in the region.
Alen Simonyan reaffirmed Armenia's positions regarding the status of Kosovo.
The Serbian counterpart noted that peace is a significant value for their country, and the energy and efforts dedicated to maintaining peace have become a daily norm. He mentioned that the passion for peace is the main condition characterizing both Armenia and Serbia, and it should serve as the basis for further cooperation.
At the end of the meeting, the President of the Armenian NA invited his counterpart to visit Armenia officially.
