Iranian President Visits Syria for the First Time in 12 Years

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has arrived in Syria for an official visit this morning. This marks the first visit by an Iranian president to the country since the outbreak of conflict in 2011. The information was reported by the IRNA news agency.

Raisi traveled to Syria at the official invitation of the country's President Bashar al-Assad. The two leaders are set to meet at the presidential palace in Damascus. During the visit, Raisi is accompanied by four ministers, the Governor of the Central Bank of Iran, the head of the president's office, and Raisi's chief political advisor.

Syrian newspaper Al-Watan had earlier noted that Raisi's visit would last for two days. Official negotiations are expected to take place between the Iranian and Syrian presidents aimed at strengthening strategic cooperation between the two nations. According to the newspaper, a significant number of agreements and memoranda of understanding in the economic sector will be signed during Raisi's visit.
