Aslanyan: I’ve Heard About the Zoo Relocation Project from Media, There Has Been No Discussion

The acting director of the Yerevan Zoo, Ashot Aslanyan, stated that he has heard about the relocation project of the zoo from media sources.

“I’ve heard about the zoo relocation project from media, there has been no discussion, I assume it was announced in the context of the city's general ecological development program,” Aslanyan said in a conversation with journalists, referring to the statement made by Yerevan Deputy Mayor Tigran Avinyan that a new zoo would be built on an area of 157 hectares adjacent to the ‘Yerevan Park’.

“The zoo has a management council, and such issues have not been discussed in the council, which leads me to assume that there is no clearly defined project like this. If there were, we would have been informed and discussed it,” he noted.

It is worth mentioning that during an extraordinary session of the Yerevan City Council on April 4, Deputy Mayor Tigran Avinyan stated that a new zoo would be constructed in the 157 hectares area adjacent to 'Yerevan Park', which will include a green zone and the planting of a forest. “We have a plan to relocate the zoo with a new format, providing better conditions for the animals,” Avinyan said.
