"Tension Between Armenia and Azerbaijan Persists," Says CSTO Secretary General
The tension in the South Caucasus region remains due to existing disputes between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This statement was made by Imangali Tasmagambetov, the Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), during an event marking the 20th anniversary of the CSTO Joint Staff.
According to him, the potential for conflicts in the world is increasing, and the negative impact of this is felt throughout the borders of the CSTO. He stated, "The world is returning to a period of confrontation, with prospects for increased conflict potential. Negative trends have an immediate effect on the situation along the entire CSTO border."
The CSTO Secretary General emphasized that international relations are currently undergoing profound transformations, altering the foundations of the established world order that has lasted for decades.
The CSTO includes six countries: Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan. The organization has previously stated that it is ready to send a mission to Armenia and provide military-technical assistance.
