Turkey's Interior Minister Visits Istanbul Armenian Patriarchate
Turkey's Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu has visited the Armenian Patriarchate of Turkey located in Fatih and met with leaders of the Armenian community. Minister Soylu stated that Turkey has become a place where people can express their opinions freely.
Soylu was accompanied by Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya, Fatih District Governor Gafer Sarılan, Mayor Mehmed Ergün Turan, and the ruling party's candidate for parliament in Istanbul, Sevan Svajoghlun. Patriarch Sahak welcomed the minister at the threshold.
The Patriarch of Istanbul discussed the Turkish state's policies towards minorities. Patriarch Sahak told Soylu, “These steps began 20 years ago. Your actions demonstrate your positive attitude towards us, which we greatly need, as we are a minority.”
