Armenia is the Primary Responsible for the Fate of Artsakh: Union of Reserve Officers of the NSS
The primary responsible for the fate of Artsakh is Armenia. In the current situation, one cannot withdraw and leave the entire burden of responsibility on Russia.
The Union of Reserve Officers of the NSS has issued a statement expressing its deep concern regarding the recent installation of an Azerbaijani checkpoint in the Berdzor (Lachin) corridor.
“This step by official Baku is in the context of the blockade of Artsakh that has been ongoing since December 12, 2022, and leads to increased tension in the situation. Valuing the mission of Russian peacekeepers in Artsakh, we expect that they will ultimately unblock Artsakh within the framework of the November 9 statement and ensure normal living conditions for our 120,000 compatriots,” the statement reads.
At the same time, the Union of Reserve Officers of the NSS has noted that they find the views of the Armenian authorities regarding the resolution of the Karabakh conflict and Armenian-Azerbaijani relations unacceptable.
“The security of Artsakh and the rights of the people of Artsakh cannot be maintained under Azerbaijani jurisdiction. The Armenian authorities presented a political agenda in their electoral program that did not recognize Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan; however, currently, they are doing the exact opposite, which gives Azerbaijan the opportunity to commit violations and at the same time does not allow the Russian side to perform an arbitrator's function,” the statement emphasizes.
It is highlighted that the Armenian authorities’ policy of achieving peace “at all costs” actually leads to new human and territorial losses, thereby increasing the likelihood of war.
The Union of Reserve Officers of the NSS sees the solution to the problem in unity.
It should be noted that since December 12, 2022, a group of Azerbaijanis in civilian clothes has closed the Stepanakert-Goris highway connecting Artsakh to Armenia under the pretext of environmental reasons at the junction of Shushi-Karin Tak.
On February 22 of this year, the International Court of Justice applied urgent measures against Azerbaijan, demanding the unblocking of the Lachin corridor. Two months later, this decision has not only not been implemented, but on April 23, Azerbaijan established a checkpoint on the Lachin road, taking complete control over it.
