US Warns Kazakhstan
The risk of secondary sanctions against Kazakh banks and companies is currently increasing due to cooperation with Russia on circumventing imposed restrictions. This information was provided in Astana by Elizabeth Rosenberg, the Assistant Secretary of the US Department of the Treasury responsible for combating financial crimes.
According to her, the American side is engaging with Kazakh partners, including government and private sector representatives, to clearly identify existing risks, “as well as the consequences that may arise from assisting Russia in evading sanctions and export control issues.”
Previously, the American newspaper The New York Times reported that “after the war began in Ukraine, Russia started importing several military-related goods with the help of Armenia and Kazakhstan to bypass sanctions.”
