Turkey Not Obligated to Comply with Sanctions Against Russia, Says Turkish Official

Ahmet Kamil Erozan, the deputy chairman of Turkey's nationalist conservative Good Party (IYI Parti), has stated that Turkey is not obligated to adhere to the sanctions imposed by Western countries against Russia, as the country has not participated in the decision-making mechanisms of these sanctions. He made this remark in an interview with TASS.

“Turkey is a part of the West; however, based on its own principles, our country is not obliged to follow the decisions of international organizations in which it does not participate in the decision-making process,” said Erozan, noting that EU countries made decisions regarding sanctions without Turkish representatives.

The party's deputy chairman emphasized that Turkey is not an EU member and is not bound to the mechanisms for adopting sanction decisions. He added that Turkey would have to comply with EU sanctions if it ever joins the union in the future, but for now, the country will act differently.
