Sick Erdoğan Cancels Today's Campaign Meeting

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, preparing for the presidential and parliamentary snap elections to be held in Turkey on May 14, has canceled today's campaign meeting. He wrote on Twitter that the decision was made on the advice of his doctors.

Erdoğan was compelled to cut short a television interview due to stomach pain the day before. The 69-year-old Erdoğan is the longest-serving leader of Turkey, having secured numerous victories during his more than 20 years in power. Besides this, he managed to overcome the 2016 attempted coup.

However, analysts indicate that this year’s snap elections will be the most challenging of his political career. A large number of voters are dissatisfied with Erdoğan's economic policies, as well as the government's performance during the first days following the devastating earthquake on February 6.
