Beware of Fines for Taking Long Selfies in This Part of Italy

The Portofino resort will fine tourists €275 for attempting to take excessively long selfies. Two picturesque locations in the town have made it onto the list of restricted areas. According to Forbes, this measure is aimed at combating pedestrian congestion during the busy season.

Approximately 500 people live in the resort, but thousands of tourists, including celebrities, visit during the summer. Fines may be issued in designated 'no waiting zones'—areas where pedestrian groups intersect with groups of tourists arriving on boats. The crowding in these spots disrupts pedestrians and emergency services. The restrictions will be in effect throughout the summer, from morning until 6 PM.
