France’s Foreign Ministry on Checkpoint Installation in the Lachin Corridor and Azerbaijan’s Obligations

France regrets the establishment of a checkpoint by Azerbaijan near the new entrance to the Lachin corridor, which contradicts the commitments made under the ceasefire agreements and harms the negotiation process. This statement was released by the French Foreign Ministry.

Azerbaijan has closed the bridge over the Hakari River as of yesterday. By effectively closing this route, the land connection between Armenia (from Kornidzor) and Artsakh is also severed in the areas of Lisagor, Mehravan, Old Shen, and Yelatsahogh villages. Later, Azerbaijan announced that a checkpoint has been installed in that section.

“France calls on Azerbaijan to fulfill its international obligations and to apply the interim measures specified in the order of the International Court dated February 22, which are mandatory,” emphasized the French Foreign Ministry.

The ministry once again urged the restoration of free movement of people and goods through the Lachin corridor in both directions and to ensure uninterrupted supply of gas and electricity.
