VIDEO: Fire in a Madrid Restaurant Claims Lives and Leaves Injured

A fire broke out in one of Madrid's restaurants on April 22, resulting in two fatalities and ten injuries, reports Mundo newspaper, citing emergency services.

"Two people have died, six have sustained serious injuries, and four have light injuries as a result of the fire that occurred in a restaurant located in the Salamanca district at Manuel Becerra Square," the city's emergency services reported.

According to the publication, the fire ignited near the entrance of the restaurant and spread to the ceiling and walls decorated with artificial foliage. It is believed that the fire may have been caused when a waiter spilled alcoholic beverages on pizza or desserts, setting off a blaze that reached the plastic plants affixed to the ceiling.

"One of the victims is a 25-year-old waiter from the restaurant. The other is a 40-year-old customer," Mundo notes. The injured have been hospitalized.
