Will Citizen's Day Be Celebrated This Year?

The newspaper "Hraparak" has attempted to clarify whether Citizen's Day will be celebrated this year, which was not observed in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic and was also skipped in 2021 because of the war.

"We have been trying for several days to get a response from the government regarding this question, but have been unsuccessful. However, from conversations with some members of the ruling Civil Contract party, it became clear that they have already forgotten that such a holiday exists, and thus confessed that they have no idea whether it will be marked in any way this year or not," the paper writes.

In 2019, changes were made to the law on "Holidays and Memorial Days," stipulating that the last Saturday of April is designated as Citizen's Day.

The publication emphasizes that it is a fact that the current authorities have only celebrated this artificial holiday once, in 2019, when festive events were organized in the streets of Yerevan, even featuring barbecues on Mashtots Avenue, attended by high-ranking officials, including Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
