The US Continues to Play a Significant Role in the Settlement Between Yerevan and Baku
The US Secretary of State Antony Blinken continues to emphasize the importance of halting violence between Armenia and Azerbaijan, particularly in the Nagorno-Karabakh region. This was stated by Vedant Patel, the Deputy Spokesperson for the US State Department.
“He has had the opportunity to meet several times with the leaders of these countries during the Munich Security Conference. We continue to remain significantly engaged in this issue. Mr. Bono (Luis Bono, Senior Advisor on Caucasus Negotiations at the State Department) continues to be involved, along with others in this department,” noted Patel.
The diplomat mentioned that he does not have further comments at this time regarding Luis Bono's visit to the South Caucasus. Senior Advisor on Caucasus Negotiations, American co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, Luis Bono was in the region from April 14. On April 20, he was received by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The parties discussed the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the formation of an international dialogue mechanism between Stepanakert and Baku, the humanitarian crisis created in Artsakh as a result of the Lachin blockade, and other issues.
