Statements on Ukraine's Possible Membership in NATO Are Very Dangerous: Zakharova
Statements regarding the possibility of Ukraine's membership in the North Atlantic Alliance are shortsighted and very dangerous. This was stated on Friday by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, commenting on Jens Stoltenberg's visit to Kyiv.
According to her, such prospects could lead to the complete collapse of the European security system. "NATO aims to defeat Russia in Ukraine, and to motivate Kyiv, it promises that after the end of the conflict, the country could join the alliance. Such statements are shortsighted and simply dangerous," Zakharova warned.
Earlier, Stoltenberg, during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, talked about the desires of all alliance members to accept Ukraine into their ranks.
