Video: 'Now let's see what Nikol Pashinyan will do' - Residents of Firdusi protest
Residents of the Firdusi neighborhood in Yerevan conducted another protest today, April 21, near the Armenian government building, demanding adequate compensation for their properties.
In 2015, the government decided to demolish several houses and warehouses in the Firdusi neighborhood based on a prevailing public interest. Most residents received compensation; however, there are some who find the compensation amounts disproportionate and refuse to leave their homes.
The area, covering approximately 5 hectares, is slated for the construction of a new residential area, known as "District 33," which will include residential buildings, business centers, and hotels. Firdusi was first declared of public benefit in 2008, and the same decision was reaffirmed in 2018.
One of the residents stated: "Karen Karapetyan set us on fire, now let’s see what Nikol Pashinyan will do." More details can be found in the video.
