Andranik Karapetyan proved unrivaled in the snatch event. At the European Weightlifting Championship held in Yerevan, the Armenian representative set a European record in the 89 kg weight category by lifting 178 kg in the snatch.
World bronze medalist and European champion, 27-year-old Andranik Karapetyan began his competition in the snatch with an opening lift of 167 kg. After successfully completing the first attempt, the Armenian coaches called for 173 kg in the second round, which he also executed confidently. In his third attempt, the European champion lifted 178 kg, surpassing Bulgaria's Carlos Nasar, the world champion and two-time European runner-up, by 4 kg.
With this achievement, Karapetyan earned the small gold medal in the snatch. In the A group of the 89 kg weight category, the three-time European and current champion, world and Olympic bronze medalist, Italy's Antonino Pizzolato, and Albania's Krenar Shoraz withdrew from the competition due to injuries. Pizzolato was one of the favorites in this weight category.
