Train Carrying Sulfuric Acid Derails in the U.S.
A train carrying sulfuric acid has derailed in Illinois, USA. This was reported by various media outlets referencing The Edwardsville Intelligencer. The incident occurred on April 17, near the village of Wood River.
Three tankers derailed, but there was no leakage of sulfuric acid. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, and the causes of the accident are still under investigation.
The publication noted that this is not the first incident of its kind in the region. In 2021, four tankers of sulfuric acid overturned in a railway accident in Wood River, and the aftermath of the hazardous material leak was resolved within a few days.
The last major accident involving a freight train in the U.S. occurred on February 3 in Ohio, where several dozen cars carrying hazardous materials derailed near the town of East Palestine.
