Secret Chinese Police Station Discovered in New York, USA
US authorities believe they have discovered a secret branch of the Chinese police in New York and have arrested two of its employees. This was reported by the US Department of Justice.
According to the department, the arrested individuals are New Yorkers who allegedly managed a police station in Lower Manhattan and destroyed evidence when confronted by the FBI.
According to US authorities, the station has been operating since February 2022. “The PRC, through its repressive security apparatus, has established a covert physical presence in New York to monitor and intimidate... those who criticize its government,” said Matthew J. Olsen, assistant attorney general for the Department of Justice's national security division.
He stated that the actions of the PRC fall outside the bounds of acceptable behavior. “We will fiercely protect the freedoms of all residents in our country from the threat of authoritarian oppression,” the prosecutor said.
Earlier, Breon Peace, the US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, announced at a press conference that 34 Chinese police officers had been charged with pursuing political activists overseas.
